ramblings of joe

about me

Hi, I’m Joe! I’m a software engineer and engineering leader who’s spent nearly fifteen years crafting mobile apps that millions of people trust every day. Ever since the original iPhone SDK launched back in 2008, I’ve been hooked on building intuitive, scalable apps that feel at home in the Apple ecosystem. I love the magic that happens when innovative engineering and thoughtful human-centered design come together.

Outside of work, I’m a die-hard sports fan. I mainly cheer for the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Red Bull Racing F1 teams, but if there’s a good game on I’m probably interested. Whenever I get a chance I love traveling back to Boston (or anywhere, really) to catch a game, eat new food, and soak up good times with friends.

I’ve called Utah home for the last twelve years, living just outside Salt Lake City with my wonderful wife, Blaire, and our three-year-old goldendoodle, Dutch. The mountains here never get old, whether I’m mountain biking, chasing fresh powder on my snowboard, or enjoying a scenic hike. When I’m not in the mountains, you may find me golfing, taking photos, or playing pickup basketball.

about the site

This site is my personal hub, where I post a mix of quick notes, commentary paired with interesting links, and deeper dive posts. Everything you see here reflects my personal opinions at the time, as I’m also learning and growing through life. They’re definitely not the official positions of my current, past, or future employers (duh).

Under the hood, this site is powered by Hugo, developed in Nova, and hosted on Netlify. All posts are written in Markdown, typically on my 16" M4 MacBook Pro.

Typography nerd? Me too. The headings and navigation are typeset in Cartridge by Dan Cederholm, with the rest of the site set in Geist, crafted by some of the talented designers at Vercel.
